Fire Planning Workshops (also known as Bushfire Planning Workshops) are one of CFA's core community education programs. They have been delivered since 2006 and targeted predominately to residents living in high-risk bushfire areas across Victoria. The program provides participants with an interactive and hands-on opportunity to learn how to develop bushfire survival plans.

The Fire Planning Workshop program is due for review and redevelopment.

Most participants who attend have an existing level of knowledge about bushfire and have an idea of what they intend to do if a fire threatened their area. However, these people require more assistance for planning strategies to support their intentions. Fire Planning Workshops offer people assistance to develop comprehensive and personalised plans with a CFA facilitator.

The Fire Planning Workshop redevelopment process has started. An evaluation has been completed by First Person Consulting (an external evaluator). This evaluation captured input from participants, Community Engagement Coordinators (CEC’s), Managers of Community Safety (MCS’s), Service Delivery Coordinators (SDC’s), Community Liaison Bushfire Engagement (CLBE) presenters, and Brigade members across all five regions.

To ensure the redeveloped program meets the needs of our presenters, Regions and community, we will set up a Community Liaison Bushfire Engagement (CLBE) Testing Group and the Regional Program Consultative Group (MCS's, SDC's CEC's) so there is a collaborative input into the revised program.

Over the next few months of redevelopment, there will be opportunities for input from the larger CFA membership.

Stay up to date with the program development by visiting this page - and keep an eye out for opportunities to provide feedback and input into some ideas.

The redeveloped Fire Planning Workshop is due for release in September 2022, ahead of the next fire season.
